CJC 170 Critical Incident Management for Public Safety

Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course prepares the student to specialize in the direct response, operations, and management of critical incidents. Emphasis is placed upon the theoretical and applied models to understand and manage disasters, terrorism, and school/work place violence. Upon completion, the student should be able to identify and discuss managerial techniques legal issues, and response procedures to critical incidents.

Course is typically offered in Fall (when offered).
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Construct a plan for emergency law enforcement response to the following incident types: natural disasters; terrorism; and school/work place violence.
  2. Categorize laws and agency policies that affect the management of critical incidents.
  3. Outline the various theoretical and applied models to critical incident management.
  4. Critique the roles of FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security in regards to local management of critical incidents.
