CJC 211 Counseling

Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course introduces the basic elements of counseling and specific techniques applicable to the criminal justice setting. Topics include observation, listening, recording, interviewing, and problem exploration necessary to form effective helping relationships. Upon completion, students should be able to discuss and demonstrate the basic techniques of counseling.

Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Apply ethical and Constitutional considerations to law enforcement efforts of counseling persons involved in the Criminal Justice system.
  2. Explain skills necessary to promote successful intervention strategies for victims and offenders.
  3. Categorize the appropriate counseling protocols for law enforcement personnel.
