CJC 215 Organization & Administration

This course introduces the components and functions of organization and administration as it applies to the agencies of the criminal justice system. Topics include operations/functions of organizations; recruiting, training, and retention of personnel; funding and budgeting; communications; span of control and discretion; and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to identify and discuss the basic components and functions of a criminal justice organization and its administrative operations.

Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Examine the organizational structure and functions of the divisions of the criminal justice system on the local, state, and federal level: police and sheriff’s agencies; probation and parole; detention; and corrections.
  2. Create a recruiting plan for an agency within the criminal justice system.
  3. Evaluate the administrative operations of criminal justice agencies on the local, state, and federal levels.
  4. Design a budget using personnel, equipment costs and other considerations based on a local criminal justice agency.
