MAT 052 Statistical Methods I Support Lecture: 1 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2 This course provides opportunities for students to build a stronger foundation for success in their MAT 152 Statistical Methods I course by obtaining skills through a variety of instructional strategies. Emphasis is placed on developing a growth mindset and building /foundational skills as well as concepts, skills, vocabulary, and definitions necessary to master student learning outcomes in MAT 152 . Upon completion, students should be able to apply mathematical concepts and critical thinking skills to solve problems relevant to MAT 152 .
Part of the RISE program.
Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer. Course has transfer restrictions - Developmental credits from out of state are not accepted.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Develop the academic habits, social skills, and growth mindset necessary to be successful in MAT 152.
- Master foundational skills to organize, display, calculate, and interpret descriptive statistics.
- Master foundational skills needed to apply basic rules of probability.
- Master foundational skills needed to identify and apply appropriate probability distributions.
- Master foundational skills needed to perform regression analysis.
- Master foundational skills needed to analyze sample data to draw inferences about a population parameter.
- Master foundational skills needed to communicate results through a variety of media.
