MAT 021 Algebra/Trigonometry I Support

This course provides an opportunity to customize foundational math content specific to Algebra and Trigonometry I. Topics include developing the academic habits, learning strategies, social skills, and growth mindset necessary to be successful in mathematics. Upon completion, students should be able to build a stronger foundation for success in Algebra/Trigonometry I by obtaining skills through a variety of instructional strategies with emphasis placed on the most essential prerequisite knowledge.

Part of the RISE program.

Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring.
Course has transfer restrictions - Developmental credits from out of state are not accepted.

At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

Develop the academic habits, learning strategies, and growth mindset necessary to be successful in mathematics.
Master foundational skills necessary to use geometric principles to solve industrial application problems involving perimeter, area, and volume.
Master foundational skills necessary to employ basic algebraic operations to simplify, evaluate, and solve proportions, radical and other algebraic functions, equations, and inequalities.
Master foundational skills necessary to perform basic algebraic operations involving complex numbers.
Master foundational skills necessary to solve applied problems using trigonometric principles involving right triangles.
Master foundational skills necessary to solve applied problems using systems of equations involving two and three variables.
Master foundational skills necessary to use technology to solve practical problems and communicate results.
