AUT 163 Advanced Automotive Electricity

This course covers electronic theory, wiring diagrams, test equipment, and diagnosis, repair, and replacement of electronics, lighting, gauges, horn, wiper, accessories, and body modules. Topics include networking and module communication, circuit construction, wiring diagrams, circuit testing, and troubleshooting. Upon completion, students should be able to properly use wiring diagrams, diagnose, test, and repair wiring, lighting, gauges, accessories, modules, and electronic concerns.

Pre-requisite(s): TRN 120 .

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

Test ABS systems using recommended equipment and manufacturer service information.
Use appropriate diagnostic equipment for finding a vehicle fault in the power distribution system.
Diagnose an automotive cranking system fault.
Use published diagnostics to repair a cranking motor fault on a vehicle or engine trainer.
Evaluate a no-start condition on a vehicle using manufacturer’s diagnostic procedures.
Test for faults on a vehicle or engine trainer charging system.
Diagnose a fault in a vehicles’ lighting system.
Diagnose a problem in a vehicles’ driver information/instrumentation center.
Evaluate a customer complaint in a vehicle accessory system.
Evaluate a problem in a vehicle S.I.R. System according to vehicle manufacturer service information.
