BIO 140A Environmental Biology Lab Lecture: 0 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 1 This course provides a laboratory component to complement BIO 140 . Emphasis is placed on laboratory and field experience. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a practical understanding of environmental interrelationships and of contemporary environmental issues.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Natural Science.
Co-requisite(s): BIO 140 . Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring. Course has transfer restrictions - 20 years
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate the use of the compound microscope.
- Discriminate the methods used in classifying living organisms.
- Compile a list of the organisms that are found in the plankton community.
- Compare the major types for ecological succession.
- Model population growth.
- Demonstrate the different types of tests that are used to check the quality of water.
- Appraise the relationship between the human respiratory system and air pollution.
- Characterize members of the more common groups of arthropods.
- Assess the components of soil.
- Model the use of solar energy.
- Evaluate methods of energy conservation.
