CAR 110 Introduction to Carpentry

Lecture: 2 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2
This course introduces the student to the carpentry trade. Topics include duties of a carpenter, hand and power tools, building materials, construction methods, and safety. Upon completion, students should be able to identify hand and power tools, common building materials, and basic construction methods.

Course is typically offered in Fall.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Explain the process of converting logs into various types of structural components.
  2. Compare different types of fastening systems.
  3. Identify different types of hand and power tools and their proper safe use.
  4. Select the correct elevated work platform from multiple options based on job requirements.
