CJC 213 Substance Abuse

This course is a study of substance abuse in our society. Topics include the history and classifications of drug abuse and the social, physical, and psychological impact of drug abuse. Upon completion, students should be able to identify various types of drugs, their effects on human behavior and society, and treatment modalities.

Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Examine legal and legally restricted drugs found in our society.
  2. Explore methods used to introduce various drugs into the human body.
  3. Categorize the physiological changes the body can go through when drugs are taken.
  4. Examine potential physical and/or psychological dependency of drugs.
  5. Document patterns of abuse for various drugs found in our society.
  6. Explain the relationship between drugs and crime based on current trends and examples.
