CJC 225 Crisis Intervention Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course introduces critical incident intervention and management techniques as they apply to operational criminal justice practitioners. Emphasis is placed on the victim/offender situation as well as job-related high stress, dangerous, or problem-solving citizen contacts. Upon completion, students should be able to provide insightful analysis of emotional, violent, drug-induced, and other critical and/or stressful incidents that require field analysis and/or resolution.
Course is typically offered in Fall. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:
- Explain the skills necessary to diffuse and stabilize a crisis situation.
- Analyze responses to trauma by victims.
- Describe strategies for crisis intervention in scenarios involving various types of crises.
- Discuss interventions to prevent vicarious trauma.
