CMT 210 Construction Management Fundamentals Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course introduces the student to the fundamentals of effective supervision emphasizing professionalism through knowledge and applied skills. Topics include safety, planning and scheduling, contracts, problem-solving, communications, conflict resolution, recruitment, employment laws and regulations, leadership, motivation, teamwork, discipline, setting objectives, and training. Upon completion, the student should be able to demonstrate the basic skills necessary to be successful as a supervisor in the construction industry.
Course is typically offered in Fall. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Differentiate between managing, supervising, and leading.
- Outline the qualities of a professional construction supervisor.
- Outline the common phases of a construction project.
- Demonstrate the strategies which may be employed by professional construction supervisors to improve profits.
- Explain the types of contracts used in the construction industry.
- Characterize the components of a typical project manual.
- Characterize the components of typical construction drawings and specifications.
