CTS 210 Computer Ethics

This course introduces the student to current legal and ethical issues in the computer/engineering field. Topics include moral reasoning, ethical standards, intellectual property, social issues, encryption, software piracy, constitutional issues, and public policy in related matters. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the moral and social responsibilities and public policy issues facing an industry.

Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring and Summer (when offered).
Course has transfer restrictions - 10 years

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

Assess how computing and information systems give rise to social issues and ethical dilemmas.
Determine ethical standards as they relate to information systems.
Assess ethical issues you may face as a member of a complex technological society.
Evaluate ethical issues related to the use of intellectual property in information technology.
Assess the legal risks and problems associated with computing technology.
Evaluate constitutional issues related to computers
Defend an ethical position.
Document privacy issues related to governmental databases.
