DRA 120 Voice for Performance Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course provides guided practice in the proper production of speech for the theatre. Emphasis is placed on improving speech, including breathing, articulation, pronunciation, and other vocal variables. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate effective theatrical speech.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.
Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the following:
- Prescribe remedies to vocal challenges through in-class exercises.
- Apply diaphragmatic breathing and clear articulation to in-class performances.
- Evaluate dialect-free, standard stage American speech through in-class exercises, class discussion, and written analysis.
- Identify vocal attributes and problems in a live performance through a written assignment.
- Create a 15-minute full vocal warm-up to be used in preparation for performance.
