EDU 131 Child, Family and Community Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course covers the development of partnerships between culturally, linguistically and ability diverse families, children, schools and communities through the use of evidence-based strategies. Emphasis is placed on developing skills and identifying benefits for establishing, supporting, and maintaining respectful, collaborative relationships between diverse families, programs/schools, and community agencies/resources reflective of the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct. Upon completion, students should be able to identify appropriate relationship building strategies between diverse families, children, schools, and communities and demonstrate a variety of communication skills including appropriate use of technology to support every child.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.
Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:
- Discuss the importance of building partnerships among families, children, schools, and communities.
- Design activities that foster collaborative partnerships between families and schools that are respectful of diverse needs and backgrounds.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills to build strong partnership between families and professionals, ensuring inclusivity and respect for all cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Identify community resources and agencies to support children and families with diverse needs.
- Develop a comprehensive family involvement plan that includes specific policies and strategies to enhance engagement of all families.
