EDU 261 Early Childhood Administration I Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course introduces principles and practices essential to preparing and supporting child care administrators. Topics include program philosophy, policies and procedures, NC Child Care Law and Rules, business planning, personnel and fiscal management, and NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct Supplement for Early Childhood Program Administration. Upon completion, students should be able to articulate a developmentally appropriate program philosophy, locate current state licensing regulations, analyze a business plan and examine comprehensive program policies and procedures.
Co-requisite(s): EDU 119. Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:
- Develop a program philosophy, including views on child development, expectation for teachers and parent involvement, a mission statement, and program goals for an early childhood program.
- Design an orientation plan for staff.
- Generate a center’s written budget.
- Design a teacher’s job description.
- Develop personnel policies for an early childhood center.
- Compare different salary schedules from early childhood centers.
- Navigate the NC Division of Child Development website identifying key legal issues, and online resources impacting child care centers in North Carolina.
- Develop a staff meeting agenda.
