PHI 215 Philosophical Issues Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course introduces fundamental issues in philosophy considering the views of classical and contemporary philosophers. Emphasis is placed on knowledge and belief, appearance and reality, determinism and free will, faith and reason, and justice and inequality. Upon completion, students should be able to identify, analyze, and critique the philosophical components of an issue.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Humanities/Fine Arts. This is a Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) course.
Pre-requisite(s): C or better in ENG 111 . Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Examine philosophical ideas in epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, political philosophy, and aesthetics.
- Compare diverse perspectives on life relative to different philosophical ideas from around the world.
- Critique original philosophical writings.
