PHM 155 Community Pharmacy Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course covers the operational procedures relating to retail pharmacy. Emphasis is placed on a general knowledge of over-the-counter products, prescription processing, business/inventory management, and specialty patient services. Upon completion, students should be able to provide technical assistance and support to the retail pharmacist.
Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate the written and oral communication skills required for safe and legal practice in the role of pharmacy technician through lab exercises and role play.
- Apply the critical thinking skills necessary for safe preparation and distribution of medication through lab exercises, role play and exams.
- Analyze policies and other print materials related to safe preparation and distribution of medication in homework and lab exercises.
- Express mathematical calculations needed to safely prepare medications and solutions in lab exercises, homework and exams.
- Utilize current technologies to prepare, store, inventory, and distribute medications through lab exercises.
