PHM 165 Pharmacy Professional Practice Lecture: 2 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2 This course provides a general overview of all aspects of pharmacy technician practice. Emphasis is placed on pharmacy law, calculations, compounding, pharmacology, and pharmacy operations. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate competence in the areas required for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination.
Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Describe the roles of the pharmacy technician in practice environments.
- Demonstrate the medication order process.
- List drug names and the new drug application process.
- Identify dosage forms, routes of administration, and effects on the body systems.
- Identify governmental agencies and laws specific to pharmacy practice.
- Discuss the importance of safety in the workplace.
- Discuss legal classifications of medicinal products.
