PLU 110 Modern Plumbing

Lecture: 4 Lab: 15 Clinic: 0 Credits: 9


This course introduces the tools, equipment, and materials associated with the plumbing industry. Topics include safety, use and care of tools, recognition and assembly of fittings and pipes, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to safely assemble various pipes and fittings in accordance with state code requirements.

Course is typically offered in Fall (PLU-110AB) and Spring (PLU-110BB)
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, students should be able to do the following:

1. Demonstrate the correct usage of general hand tools.

2. Identify various pipes and fittings used in basic plumbing.

3. Demonstrate safe and good soldering techniques.

4. Connect PVC drainage pipe correctly.

5. Design a plumbing layout using various piping and fittings.

6. Apply safe OSHA onsite practices.

7. Select proper materials for plumbing applications.

8. Solve basic mathematical calculations.

9. Read a ruler and tape measure with accuracy.
