PSY 239 Psychology of Personality Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course covers major personality theories and personality research methods. Topics include psychoanalytic, behavioristic, social learning, cognitive, humanistic, and trait theories including supporting research. Upon completion, students should be able to compare and contrast traditional and contemporary approaches to the understanding of individual differences in human behavior.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Social/Behavioral Sciences.
Pre-requisite(s): PSY 150 . Course is typically offered in Fall. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Evaluate the impact of cultural factors upon the various personality theories.
- Explain the major concepts of the various theories of personality.
- Differentiate between psychoanalytic, neo-psychoanalytic, behavioral, biological, trait, cognitive, and humanistic approaches to personality.
- Apply theories of personality to human behavior.
