SOC 220 Social Problems

This course provides an in-depth study of current social problems. Emphasis is placed on causes, consequences, and possible solutions to problems associated with families, schools, workplaces, communities, and the environment. Upon completion, students should be able to recognize, define, analyze, and propose solutions to these problems.

This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Social/Behavioral Sciences.

Pre-requisite(s): DRE 097 or ENG 002
Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring.

At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

Analyze what constitutes a social problem.
Evaluate the basic framework for interpreting current social problems.
Explain the causes of social problems and possible solutions.
Integrate detailed information based on sociological research about a specific social problem.
