SOC 225 Social Diversity Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course provides a comparison of diverse roles, interests, opportunities, contributions, and experiences in social life. Topics include race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, class, and religion. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze how cultural and ethnic differences evolve and how they affect personality development, values, and tolerance.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Social/ Behavioral Sciences.
Pre-requisite(s): DRE 097 or ENG 002 Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Analyze how cultural and ethnic differences evolve.
- Identify how cultural and ethnic differences affect values.
- Evaluate the interplay between group divisions and social institutions.
- Explain the power dynamics of majority/minority relationships.
