AUT 281 Advanced Engine Performance

Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3

This course utilizes service information and specialized test equipment to diagnose and repair power train control systems. Topics include computerized ignition, fuel and emission systems, related diagnostic tools and equipment, data communication networks, and service information. Upon completion, students should be able to perform diagnosis and repair.

Pre-requisite(s): Grade of C or better in AUT 183.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

Diagnose a fault in an OBDII vehicle’s evaporative emissions system.
Replace an evaporative purge solenoid.
Diagnose a fault in the misfire monitor of an OBDII vehicle.
Analyze the signal from a crankshaft position sensor on an oscilloscope.
Research vehicle service information to find a fault that requires a PCM re-flash.
Diagnose a fault in the EGR monitor of an OBDII vehicle.
