MAT 071 Precalculus Algebra Support Lecture: 0 Lab: 4 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2 This course provides opportunities for students to build a stronger foundation for success in their MAT 171 Pre-Calculus course by obtaining skills through a variety of instructional strategies. Emphasis is placed on developing a growth mindset and building foundational skills as well as concepts, skills, vocabulary and definitions necessary to master student learning outcomes in MAT 171 . Upon completion, students should be able to apply mathematical concepts and critical thinking skills to solve problems relevant to MAT 171 .
Part of the RISE program.
Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer. Course has transfer restrictions - Developmental credits from out of state are not accepted.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Develop the academic habits, learning strategies, and growth mindset necessary to be successful in mathematics.
- Master foundational skills necessary to use analytical, graphical, and numerical representations to solve absolute value, radical, polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic equations with both real and complex solutions.
- Master foundational skills necessary to use analytical, graphical, and numerical representations to solve absolute value, polynomial and rational inequalities with real solutions.
- Master foundational skills necessary to use analytical, graphical, and numerical representations to analyze absolute value, radical, polynomial, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions with both real and complex zeros.
- Master foundational skills necessary to use multiple methods to solve problems involving systems of equations and apply to decomposing partial fractions.
- Master foundational skills necessary to construct the composition and inverse of functions.
- Master foundational skills necessary to use polynomial, exponential and logarithmic functions to model various real world situations in order to analyze, draw conclusions, and make predictions.
