ART 115 Art History Survey II

This course covers the development of art forms from the Renaissance to the present. Emphasis is placed on content, terminology, design, and style. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an historical understanding of art as a product reflective of human social development.

This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Humanities/Fine Arts. This is a Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) course.

At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

Identify the major art movements from sixteenth century Renaissance to the present day.
Recognize the work and contributions of the major artists from sixteenth century Renaissance to the present day.
Analyze the formal qualities of a work of art, including media and subject matter.
Analyze works of art within the historical context of the artist, culture, time, and location.
Synthesize the possible meaning of a work of art within an appropriate art historical context.
