AUT 116 Engine Repair

Lecture: 2 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course covers the theory, construction, inspection, diagnosis, and repair of internal combustion engines and related systems. Topics include fundamental operating principles of engines and diagnosis, inspection, adjustment, and repair of automotive engines using appropriate service information. Upon completion, students should be able to perform basic diagnosis, measurement and repair of automotive engines using appropriate tools, equipment, procedures, and service information.

Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110  
Course is typically offered in Summer.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Perform cylinder cranking, running compression, and leakage tests, interpreting results for engine condition assessment.
  2. Disassemble engine components for inspection and measurement.
  3. Measure bearing clearances, oil pressure, and engine block/cylinder head surfaces to ensure proper operation.
  4. Apply service information to correctly reassemble the engine and confirm operational standards.
