AUT 141 Suspension & Steering Systems Lecture: 2 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course covers principles of operation, types, and diagnosis/repair of suspension and steering systems to include steering geometry. Topics include manual and power steering systems and standard and electronically controlled suspension and steering systems. Upon completion, students should be able to service and repair steering and suspension components, check and adjust alignment angles, repair tires, and balance wheels.
Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110 Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Evaluate suspension and steering system concerns to determine necessary actions for repairs.
- Evaluate power steering systems for proper operation and condition.
- Perform maintenance procedures such as tire rotation, shock absorber replacement, and lubrication of suspension and steering components.
- Evaluate tire wear patterns to determine causes and necessary actions.
- Evaluate the results of a pre-alignment inspection, including vehicle ride height, to determine necessary actions for repairs.
