AUT 231 Manual Transmissions/Transaxles/Drive Trains

Lecture: 2 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course covers the operation, diagnosis, and repair of manual transmissions/transaxles, clutches, driveshafts, axles, and final drives. Topics include theory of torque, power flow, and manual drive train servicing and repair using appropriate service information, tools, and equipment. Upon completion, students should be able to explain operational theory, diagnose and repair manual drive trains.

Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110  
Course is typically offered in Fall.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Perform a bleed procedure on a hydraulic clutch system.
  2. Demonstrate the overhaul of a manual transmission/transaxle.
  3. Diagnose noise concerns using manual transmission/transaxle power flow principles.
  4. Demonstrate the overhaul procedures for a differential using appropriate tools and service information.
  5. Measure driveline angles using appropriate tools and service information.
  6. Perform the overhaul of a transfer case using appropriate tools and service information.
