DEN 107 Clinical Practice II Lecture: 1 Lab: 0 Clinic: 12 Credits: 5 This course is designed to increase the level of proficiency in assisting in a clinical setting. Emphasis is placed on the application of principles and procedures of four-handed dentistry and laboratory and clinical support functions. Upon completion, students should be able to combine theoretical and ethical principles necessary to perform entry-level skills including functions delegable to a DA II.
This is a diploma-level course.
Pre-requisite(s): DEN 106. Course is typically offered in Summer. Course has transfer restrictions - No DEN courses will be transferred in unless student has earned a Dental Assisting Diploma.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate professional behavior and demeanor with doctor, staff and patients.
- Prepare the operatory and the patient for treatment utilizing correct infection control procedures.
- Assist with diagnostic, radiographic, restorative and preventive procedures.
- Apply principles of the Dental Assistant’s Code of Ethics to practice.
- Complete each of the mock DANB exams - Radiation Health and Safety, Infection and Hazard Control and General Chairside with a 70% pass rate.
