DRA 111 Theatre Appreciation Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course provides a study of the art, craft, and business of the theatre. Emphasis is placed on the audience’s appreciation of the work of the playwright, director, actor, designer, producer, and critic. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate a vocabulary of theatre terms and to recognize the contributions of various theatre artists.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Humanities/Fine Arts. This is a Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) course.
Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Analyze theater as an artform and its global and cultural significance.
- Apply key theatrical theories and practices to the analysis of plays and performances.
- Discuss how collaboration among theatre artists contributes to the creation of a theatrical production.
- Assess the elements of production, such as lighting, directing, acting, costuming, and scenic design in live theater.
- Create an original short play and theatrical design plan.
