DRA 145 Stage Make-up Lecture: 1 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2 This course covers the research, design, selection of materials, and application of stage make-up, prosthetics, wigs, and hairpieces. Emphasis is placed on the development of techniques, style, and presentation of the finished makeup. Upon completion, students should be able to create and apply make-up, prosthetics, and hairpieces.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.
Course is typically offered in Fall (when offered). Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Classify specific time periods of makeup and hair by creating a compilation of images in specific categories and presenting a research paper on a category of specific interest.
- Demonstrate skill in application of stage makeup, particularly the use of highlight and shadow for the creation of three dimensional illusion.
- Explore the human face through illustrating physiological structure and its use in designing face schematics for makeup design.
- Employ advanced makeup application techniques to create stage worthy creations in the areas of age, fantasy, corrective makeup and character makeup.
- Investigate the use of prosthetics, both wax and latex, for use in creating realistic three dimensional effects for use in live theatrical productions.
- Using proper techniques in specific steps, apply wigs and facial hair applications at a professional theatrical level.
