ELC 213 Instrumentation

Lecture: 3 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 4
This course covers the fundamentals of instrumentation used in industry. Emphasis is placed on electric, electronic, and other instruments. Upon completion, students should be able to install, maintain, and calibrate instrumentation.

Pre-requisite(s): Take MAT-121, MAT-143, or MAT-171, and ELC-111, ELC 112  , or ELC 131  .
Course is typically offered in Fall.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  1. Analyze the function and application of different types of sensors and transducers used in industrial control systems.
  2. Evaluate the importance of signal conditioning in ensuring accurate and reliable data acquisition and processing.
  3. Apply principles of instrumentation to monitor, control, and troubleshoot industrial processes.
  4. Integrate Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controls with instrumentation systems in feedback circuits.
  5. Design basic instrumentation systems that meet specified operational criteria for industrial applications.
