GRO 120 Gerontology

Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course covers the psychological, social, and physical aspects of aging. Emphasis is placed on the factors that promote mental and physical well-being. Upon completion, students should be able to recognize the aging process and its psychological, social, and physical aspects.

Pre-requisite(s): HSE 110  and PSY 150.  
Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Examine major concepts of gerontology.
  2. Explore social and psychological theories in later life development.
  3. Develop a written personal philosophy of healthy aging through use of aging models.
  4. Demonstrate effective needs assessment during class activities.
  5. Create a resource guide identifying resources for older adults in North Carolina.
