HET 110 Diesel Engines Lecture: 3 Lab: 9 Clinic: 0 Credits: 6 This course introduces theory, design, terminology, and operating adjustments for diesel engines. Emphasis is placed on safety, theory of operation, inspection, measuring, and rebuilding diesel engines according to factory specifications. Upon completion, students should be able to measure, diagnose problems, and repair diesel engines.
Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110 Course is typically offered in Fall. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Inspect cylinder block components after disassembling and prior to reassembling.
- Install crankshaft damper and flywheel after inspecting.
- Disassemble cylinder head after removal.
- Measure valve guides, springs, and all head sealing surfaces.
- Assemble cylinder head to cylinder block after valve installation.
- Adjust injector and valve assemblies.
- Check engine oil pressure, pressure gauge, and sending unit.
- Inspect air induction system including turbo, turbo piping, and air filter system.
