HET 231 Medium/Heavy Duty Brake System

Lecture: 1 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2
This course covers the theory and repair of braking systems used in medium and heavy duty vehicles. Topics include air, hydraulic, and ABS system diagnosis and repair. Upon completion, students should be able to troubleshoot, adjust, and repair braking systems on medium and heavy duty vehicles.

Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110  
Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Diagnose vehicle braking complaints, including ABS system issues, in transportation vehicles.
  2. Troubleshoot irregular brake components, including hydraulic or pneumatic plumbing systems, for necessary repairs.
  3. Perform a thorough inspection of steering, drive, and trailer components in transportation vehicles.
  4. Demonstrate the use of appropriate diagnostic equipment including OEM manuals/software.
  5. Inspect braking and hydraulic or pneumatic systems using DOT standards.
