HET 233 Suspension and Steering Lecture: 2 Lab: 4 Clinic: 0 Credits: 4 This course introduces the theory and principles of medium and heavy duty steering and suspension systems. Topics include wheel and tire problems, frame members, fifth wheel, bearings, and coupling systems. Upon completion, students should be able to troubleshoot, adjust, and repair suspension and steering components on medium and heavy duty vehicles.
Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110 Course is typically offered in Spring. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Analyze vehicle drive and ride complaints in a heavy-duty vehicle.
- Evaluate irregular wear on vehicle tires.
- Apply techniques to perform steering, drive, and trailer alignment on a transportation vehicle.
- Utilize appropriate diagnostic equipment to assess a vehicle’s wheel alignment.
- Repair steering systems following a comprehensive inspection.
