HIS 111 World Civilizations I Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course introduces world history from the dawn of civilization to the early modern era. Topics include Eurasian, African, American, and Greco-Roman civilizations and Christian, Islamic, and Byzantine cultures. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze significant political, socioeconomic, and cultural developments in pre-modern world civilizations.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Social/Behavioral Sciences. This is a Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) course.
Pre-requisite(s): ENG-002 or ENG 025 Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring, Summer Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Differentiate ancient civilizations politically, socially, culturally, and economically.
- Identify key turning points in the pre-modern period of world history.
- Analyze the impact of major discoveries and inventions on society.
- Trace the development and spread of major world religions.
- Identify the geographical locations of important historical events.
- Demonstrate historiographical skills by identifying appropriate sources, selecting and prioritizing information, and synthesizing a logical response to selected historical issues.
