HRM 245 Human Resource Management-Hospitality

This course introduces a systematic approach to human resource management in the hospitality industry. Topics include training/development, staffing, selection, hiring, recruitment, evaluation, benefit administration, employee relations, labor regulations/laws, discipline, motivation, productivity, shift management, contract employees and organizational culture. Upon completion, students should be able to apply human resource management skills for the hospitality industry.

Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Identify the principles of effective supervision in the hospitality industry.
  2. Explain federal and state regulations as it applies to hospitality supervision.
  3. Identify effective recruitment and selecting applicant strategies in the hospitality industry.
  4. Demonstrate the process of new employee orientation.
  5. Conduct a training workshop on a hospitality related topic.
  6. Demonstrate the ability to perform interviews using case study scenarios.
  7. Critique different styles of leadership appropriate for a given scenario.
