HUM 161 Advanced Film Studies

Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course provides an advanced study of film art and production, building on skills learned in HUM 160.  Topics include advanced film production techniques, film genres, examination of master directors’ styles, and the relation of film to culture. Upon completion, students should be able to recognize and critically analyze advanced elements of film production.

This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Humanities/Fine Arts.

Pre-requisite(s): HUM 160

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Identify documentary films according to mode, style, and voice.  
  2. Articulate the complex ethical issues representing subjects and topics. 
  3. Analyze documentary films using technical and critical elements of film. 
  4. Analyze the cultural context, social, and/or historical movements in documentary films.
