LEX 285 Workers’ Compensation Law Lecture: 2 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2 This course covers the process of initiating and handling workers’ compensation claims. Emphasis is placed on reviewing and drafting relevant Industrial Commission forms. Upon completion, students should be able to interview clients, gather information, and draft documents related to workers’ compensation claims.
Course is typically offered in Fall (when offered) Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Apply traditional intentional tort concepts in a written examination.
- Apply the North Carolina Workers’ Compensation Act to an employee’s injury through a written examination.
- Appeal an unfavorable decision by the North Carolina Industrial Commission using a set of facts provided.
- Document the sources of workers’ compensation laws relating to specific classes of individuals in a written exam.
