MAT 152 Statistical Methods I Lecture: 3 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 4 This course provides a project-based approach to introductory statistics with an emphasis on using real-world data and statistical literacy. Topics include descriptive statistics, correlation and regression, basic probability, discrete and continuous probability distributions, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing. Upon completion, students should be able to use appropriate technology to describe important characteristics of a data set, draw inferences about a population from sample data, and interpret and communicate results.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a general education course in Mathematics. This is a Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) course.
Pre-requisite(s): ENG-002 or ENG 025 and MAT-003 or MAT 025 Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring, Summer Course has transfer restrictions - 20 years
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Identify fundamental statistical concepts and terminology.
- Calculate descriptive statistics.
- Apply basic rules of probability.
- Apply appropriate probablility distributions for binomial and normal real-world situations.
- Perform regression analysis.
- Analyze sample data to draw inferences about a population parameter.
