MED 262 Clinical Perspectives Lecture: 1 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 1 This course is designed to explore personal and occupational responsibilities of the practicing medical assistant. Emphasis is placed on problems encountered during externships and development of problem-solving skills. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate courteous and diplomatic behavior when solving problems in the medical facility.
Pre-requisite(s): Admission to the Medical Assisting Program. Course is typically offered in Spring. Course has transfer restrictions - 2 years
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate courteous and diplomatic behavior when solving problems in the medical facility.
- Identify the personal and occupational responsibilities of a practicing medical assistant, including ethical considerations, legal obligations, professional conduct, and patient confidentiality.
- Explain the common problems encountered during externships or clinical placements as a medical assistant, highlighting the challenges and complexities specific to the healthcare environment.
- Apply problem-solving skills to address and resolve the problems encountered during externships, utilizing critical thinking, analysis, and creativity to develop effective solutions and strategies.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of different problem-solving techniques and strategies utilized during externships, considering their outcomes, ethical considerations, and alignment with professional standards and best practices.
- Demonstrate courteous and diplomatic behavior when solving problems in the medical facility, displaying effective communication skills, empathy, active listening, and professionalism in resolving conflicts and addressing challenges.
