NET 125 Introduction to Networks

Lecture: 2 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course offers a detailed exploration of the architecture, structure, functions, components, and operating models of the Internet and other computer networks. Topics include the essentials of IP addressing, Ethernet basics, various media types, and network operations. Upon completion, students should be able to build/troubleshoot simple Local Area Networks (LANs), develop effective IP addressing schemes, and configure routers and switches.

Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring, and Summer.
Course has transfer restrictions - 10 years

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Define network terminology.
  2. Explain network communications using the OSI model.
  3. Solve IPv4 and IPv6 addressing problems.
  4. Apply a basic configuration to a router and a switch.
  5. Use subnetting and VLSM for network addressing.
