NET 175 Wireless Technology

Lecture: 2 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3
This course introduces the student to wireless technology and interoperability with different communication protocols. Topics include Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), Wireless Mark-up language (WML), link manager, service discovery protocol, transport layer and frequency band. Upon completion, students should be able to discuss in written and oral form protocols and procedures required for different wireless applications.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Describe the basic characteristics of each wireless PHY standard.
  2. Properly configure the security parameters in an AP.
  3. Troubleshoot performance, connectivity, security and mobility issues of a WLAN.
  4. Identify the features, capabilities, and configuration options of a typical AP.
  5. Describe RF signal characteristics, behaviors, and propogation.
