SST 140 Green Building & Design Concepts

This course is designed to introduce the student to sustainable building design and construction principles and practices. Topics include sustainable building rating systems and certifications, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, sustainable building materials and water use. Upon completion, students should be able to identify the principles and practices of sustainable building design and construction.

Course is typically offered in Fall and Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Explain the concept of sustainability and its importance in modern contexts.
  2. Analyze the integrative planning process for sustainable development.
  3. Evaluate strategies for site selection and preservation in sustainable development.
  4. Assess energy and water usage and its impact on sustainability.
  5. Apply concepts of solar and renewable energy technologies.
  6. Analyze the role of climate-responsive design in sustainable architecture.
  7. Investigate the impact of building materials and construction practices on sustainability.
