TRN 120 Basic Transportation Electricity Lecture: 4 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 5 This course covers basic electrical theory, wiring diagrams, test equipment, and diagnosis, repair and replacement of batteries, starters, and alternators. Topics include Ohm’s Law, circuit construction, wiring diagrams, circuit testing, and basic troubleshooting. Upon completion, students should be able to properly use wiring diagrams, diagnose, test, and repair basic wiring, battery, starting, charging, and electrical concerns.
Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110 . Course is typically offered in Fall. Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:
- Demonstrate workplace safety related to transportation electrical systems.
- Analyze wiring diagram information on a transportation vehicle electrical system.
- Demonstrate the proper use of electrical diagnostic test equipment.
- Calculate the voltage, resistance, or amperage in a given circuit using Ohm’s law.
- Demonstrate the diagnosis and repair of faults in the battery, starting, and charging systems of a transportation vehicle.
