TRN 140 Transportation Climate Control

Lecture: 1 Lab: 2 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2
This course covers the theory of refrigeration and heating, electrical/electronic/pneumatic controls, and diagnosis and repair of climate control systems. Topics include diagnosis and repair of climate control components and systems, recovery/recycling of refrigerants, and safety and environmental regulations. Upon completion, students should be able to diagnose and repair vehicle climate control systems.

Pre-requisite(s): TRN 110  
Course is typically offered in Spring.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Implement workplace safety in a lab setting per OSHA and EPA guidelines for climate control systems found on transportation vehicles and equipment.
  2. Perform the diagnosis and repair of climate control systems in transportation vehicles or related equipment using recommended lab equipment and service information.
  3. Perform the proper recovery and recycling procedures for refrigerants in a transportation vehicle or related equipment using EPA-recommended equipment.
  4. Operate climate control testing equipment to aid in the diagnosis of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  5. Implement the use of appropriate service information and capacity charts for climate control systems.
