WLD 112 Basic Welding Processes

Lecture: 1 Lab: 3 Clinic: 0 Credits: 2


This course introduces basic welding and cutting. Emphasis is placed on beads applied with gases, mild steel fillers, and electrodes and the capillary action of solder. Upon completion, students should be able to set up welding and oxy-fuel equipment and perform welding, brazing and soldering processes.

 

Course is typically offered in Fall.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
At the completion of the course, the students should be able to do the following:

  1. Exhibit safe practices in a welding environment based on ANSI Z.49.1 (Safety in welding and cutting and allied processes.)
  2. Produce acceptable weldments and straight-line cuts on limited thickness metal material, using 2 welding processes and one cutting process to AWS or instructor standards. 
  3. Apply working knowledge of welding and cutting including equipment, process, electrode, and quality control on a written test with a score of 80 or above.
