ART 231 Printmaking I

This course introduces printmaking: its history, development techniques, and processes. Emphasis is placed on basic applications with investigation into image source and development. Upon completion, students should be able to produce printed images utilizing a variety of methods.

This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.

At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

Analyze historical development and contemporary practice of printmaking as an art form.
Demonstrate the processes of relief, intaglio, monotypes, collagraphs, and multistep registration.
Use tools, equipment, and chemicals in a relevant and safe manner.
Create a cohesive series of prints that represent various printmaking techniques. 
Evaluate prints through critique.
Demonstrate the development of concepts and printmaking techniques by maintaining a comprehensive sketchbook.
Prepare artwork appropriately for presentation.
