ART 118 Art by Women Lecture: 3 Lab: 0 Clinic: 0 Credits: 3 This course provides an analytical study of the works of representative female artists. Emphasis is placed on the historical and cultural contexts, themes, and aesthetic features of individual works. Upon completion, students should be able to interpret, analyze, and discuss selected works.
This course has been approved for transfer under the CAA as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.
Pre-requisite(s): ENG-002 (P2 grade) or ENG 025 Course is typically offered in Fall, Spring Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) At completion of the course, the student should be able to do the following:
- Evaluate significant historical and contemporary works of art produced by women.
- Identify women’s contributions in the visual arts as artists, patrons, and subjects.
- Analyze the formal qualities of a work of art, including media and subject matter.
- Analyze works of art within the historical context of the artist, culture, time, and location.
- Synthesize the possible meaning of a work of art within an appropriate art historical context.
